Bayern Munich lead race for Chelsea target Havertz

Bayer Leverkusen have reluctantly conceded rising star Kai Havertz will likely be sold this summer and Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich lead the way, reports The Daily Telegraph.

Havertz has long been regarded as one of the best young talents in Europe since breaking into the first-team fold at Leverkusen four years ago.

The Germany international exploded into form around the turn of the year after a fairly underwhelming start to the season and is now on the radar of most clubs in Europe.

Chelsea and Manchester United were considered the frontrunners for Havertz's signature but now Bayern have moved ahead in the race.

Bayern are determined to reduce the average age of their playing squad this summer with moves for the best young talent in Europe.

Manchester City's Leroy Sane is a top transfer target for the Bundesliga leaders and now they are keen on Havertz.

While Leverkusen are prepared to let Havertz make the next step in his career, they still want at least £75m for the 20-year-old this summer.

With transfer values tipped to fall as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic, it remains to be seen how many clubs will be willing to pay that much for the versatile attacker.

After only scoring or assisting three goals in his first 14 league games this season, Havertz has remarkably played a direct hand in 13 goals in as many league outings in 2020.
