Reece Oxford cuts short Gladbach loan stint

Reece Oxford is poised to cut short his loan stint at Bundesliga side Gladbach and will return to parent club West Ham in December, reports ESPN.

The 18-year-old made the ambitious move to join the German side on a season-long lean deal at the start of the season but it’s been nothing short of a disaster.

Oxford is still waiting to make his first-team debut for Gladbach and will now return to West Ham before the end of the year before evaluating his options further in January.

The England U20 international, who was heavily linked with a move to Manchester United last year, endured a frustrating loan spell with Reading during the second half of last season.

Oxford only managed five appearances for the Royals last season and his latest loan spell has gone even worse.

There have been suggestions Gladbach do not need Oxford, which is particularly damning on his first-team opportunities when they have only won two of their first six league games this season.

FIFA regulations mean the teenager would not be able to play for West Ham upon his return until the start of 2018.
