Everton face four-way tussle for Manchester United defender

Everton face competition from Marseille, Zenit and Paris Saint-Germain for Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo, reports The Sun.

Marco Silva wants to sign a new centre-back before Thursday’s transfer deadline and the Toffees are interested in Rojo.

United are willing to sacrifice Rojo, who only signed a new deal at the club in March, in order to make room for a new defensive signing this summer.

Jose Mourinho’s side are hoping to command in the region of £30m for the Argentina international and have been boosted by the interest of four clubs.

Everton announced the departure of Ashley Williams to Stoke on Thursday and it would be a disaster if they didn’t sign a replacement in the next week.

Rojo still hasn’t returned to pre-season after suffering an injury during the 2018 World Cup but that hasn’t put off the likes of Marseille, Zenit or PSG.

The 28-year-old has spent the last four years at Old Trafford, but United marginally have a better win ratio when Rojo has not started in the league (58%) under Mourinho compared to when he has (53.8%).
