Sunderland are prepared to move for Charlie Austin in January as a replacement for Jermain Defoe, according to the Daily Mail.
Austin has impressed for QPR this season, netting seven goals before injury struck in September.
The Hoops' poor form this term could convince Austin that his future lies elsewhere, with the English frontman netting a commendable 18 league goals in the Premier League last season.
Sunderland are keen to strengthen their attack in the New Year in ther bid to stave off relegation and are believed to have earmarked Austin as a potential signing.
However, any move depends on the club selling Defoe, who has struggled to hold down a regular starting berth for the Black Cats this term.
