Arsenal face anxious wait over future of starlet Saka

Talks between Arsenal and Bukayo Saka were at deadlock before football was suspended to cope with the worldwide outbreak of COVID-19, claims The Daily Telegraph.

Saka will only have 12 months to run on his current Arsenal deal in the summer and has already been linked with moves to Premier League rivals Manchester United.

The 18-year-old has been a revelation for Arsenal this season and has particularly excelled at left-back despite being a winger.

Mikel Arteta has made securing Saka's long-term future one of Arsenal's main priorities but his future is in limbo as the Premier League comes to terms with the global pandemic.

Failure to tie Saka down to a new contract by the time the next transfer window opens would leave Arsenal vulnerable to offers from rivals.

Recent history has shown Arsenal tend to lose their best players and talents to other Premier League sides.

Saka is still under his first professional deal and earns just £7,000-a-week, plus bonuses, despite being a first-team regular for the Gunners.

To make matters worse, Arsenal are not even reporting for first-team training at the moment with the club on lockdown after manager Arteta tested positive for COVID-19.

The highly rated teenager could more than five times that amount at a club like United but Arsenal are determined to see the England Under-19 international at the Emirates for years to come.

Saka has impressively registered nine assists in all competitions for Arsenal this season, more than any other player at the club.
