Barcelona wrap up shock deal for ex-Man Utd flop

Barcelona have agreed a deal in principle to sign Lyon captain and former Manchester United captain Memphis Depay, claims De Telegraaf.

New Barcelona head coach Ronald Koeman is on the brink of landing his top transfer target but the Spanish side must first offload players before a deal can be made official.

Barcelona have sold Ivan Rakitic and are still working to release Arturo Vidal and Luis Suarez from their contracts.

Memphis, who was Netherlands captain under Koeman, has agreed a four-year deal running until the summer of 2024.

The 26-year-old has entered the final 12 months of his current Lyon contract and Barcelona have agreed a cut-price €30m (£27.6m) fee with the Ligue 1 outfit.

United included an option of first refusal when they sold Memphis to Lyon but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side have no plans to re-sign their former No.7.

Memphis, who scored a hat-trick in Lyon's first league game of 2020/21, has played a direct hand in 78 goals in 102 league games for OL.
