Chelsea to rival Everton for Real Madrid defender

Chelsea have earmarked Real Madrid left-back Sergio Reguilon as a potential transfer target amid fears of being priced out for Leicester's Ben Chilwell, claims Sky Sports.

Frank Lampard is desperate to sign a new left-back this summer after deeming both Marcos Alonso and Emerson surplus to requirements.

Chilwell has been heavily linked with a move to Chelsea in recent weeks and is reportedly keen on signing for Lampard's side after Leicester missed out on a top-four finish.

However, Leicester will reportedly only sanction Chilwell's departure to Chelsea if the Blues cough up £80m.

Leicester got a world record fee for a defender when they sold Harry Maguire to Manchester United last summer and intend on getting the same money for Chilwell.

Chelsea have no interest in paying that much for the England international and are now weighing up their options, with Reguilon a potential alternative.

Everton bid £18m for the Spanish left-back last week following his successful loan spell at Sevilla this season.

Reguilon has no future at Madrid following the big money arrival of Ferland Mendy last summer and is free to leave Zinedine Zidane's side on a permanent transfer.

Sevilla only won two of the nine league matches Reguilon missed this season and the 23-year-old finished the campaign in the WhoScored Team of the Season in LaLiga (7.10 rating).
