Manchester United keeping an eye on out of contract striker

Manchester United are keeping an eye on PSG frontman Edinson Cavani as they seek to bring in a new striker this summer, reports Manchester Evening News.

United were credited with an interest in the Uruguayan in January, but a move failed to materialise.

Cavani has been heavily linked with a move to Atletico Madrid, while a switch to Boca Juniors has been mooted, but United are monitoring the frontman's situation with a view to bringing him to Old Trafford in the summer.

With the Ligue 1 season cancelled due to the Coronavirus pandemic, Cavani has effectively played his last game for the club and will leave as PSG's all-time record goalscorer.

Despite netting just four times in Ligue 1 this season, Cavani still has his admirers and United are pondering offering the 33-year-old striker a contract when his current PSG deal expires next month.

United missed out on Erling Haaland in January, who ended up moving to Borussia Dortmund instead, and secured the last-ditch capture of Odion Ighalo from Shanghai Shenhua on loan.

However, United will not look to make the Nigerian's move permanent in the off season with Ighalo set to return to China.

Despite a lack of game time with PSG this season, only teammate Kylian Mbappe (19) has missed more clear-cut goalscoring chances than Cavani (16) in Ligue 1 this term.
