Chelsea make first contact for Juventus striker

Chelsea have approached Juventus about Gonzalo Higuain's availability this summer, claims Gianluca Di Marzio.

New Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri wants to overhaul the club’s offensive options this summer and has made reuniting with Higuain a priority.

The Argentina international spent one season under Sarri at Napoli before securing a controversial move to Juventus in 2016.

Higuain’s future at Juventus has been cast into serious doubt this summer following the shock club-record arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo.

While Chelsea are intent on signing Higuain, Sarri’s side are first keen to sell their current options to make room for the striker.

Alvaro Morata and Michy Batshuayi are both set to face the chop this summer, while Olivier Giroud’s future is far from secure either.

The arrival of Higuain would further suggest Chelsea have abandoned their policy of not signing players approaching the twilight of their career.

Antonio Conte was successful in signing Olivier Giroud in January and Sarri wants his new club to land 30-year-old Higuain.

Since moving to Italy in 2013, Higuain has scored at least 11 more goals than any other player in Serie A (111).
