Real Madrid are weighing up a shock move for Watford left-back Miguel Layun as cover for Marcelo, according to Mexico outlet Tiempo Real, via The Daily Mirror.
The La Liga giants have made signing a new left-back one of their top priorities this summer as they look to add cover in the case of Marcelo getting injured.
Madrid have been linked with Bayer Leverkusen’s Wendell as a result, but they are now reportedly mulling a move for Watford defender Layun, who is currently on loan at Porto.
Layun, 27, has impressed for Porto this season and the Portuguese club are expected to activate the pre-agreed clause to make the swap permanent before assessing whether or not to cash in and make an immediate profit if Madrid come calling.
The Mexico international was particularly impressive in the Champions League this season before Porto were eliminated in the group stages. In fact, only two Porto players garnered a higher WhoScored rating than Layun in UEFA’s premier competition (7.59).
