Chelsea eye two new strikers in January

Chelsea believe their FIFA-imposed transfer ban will be lifted in January and plan to sign Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson and RB Leipzig star Timo Werner, claim The Sun.

The Premier League giants were unable to sign any new players in the summer after FIFA punished them following an investigation into their recruitment of foreign under-18 players.

FIFA handed Chelsea a two transfer window ban meaning they wouldn't be able to register new players until the summer of 2020.

However, Frank Lampard's side believe their ban will be lifted immiently and they are already planning to bolster their offensive options at the start of next year.

Bournemouth striker Wilson has been linked with a move to Chelsea for the past 12 months after cementing himself as a regular with the England national team squads.

Wilson has recovered from two serious knee injuries to fulfil his potential at Bournemouth, though Eddie Howe's side will demand an enormous fee to sanction his sale midway through the season.

The 28-year-old has scored 19 goals in 40 league appearances since the beginning of last season, including five in 10 outings this term.

Wilson is not the only striker on Lampard's wishlist, with Chelsea also prepared to rival Liverpool for Bundesliga sensation Werner.

Leipzig were concerned Werner would run down his contract and leave for nothing at the end of the campaign but he penned a new deal with the German outfit in August.

However, it has since emerged the 23-year-old has a release clause as low as €30m (£25.9m) in his new contract to allow him a high profile move in the future.

Chelsea will face stiff competition from Liverpool and Bayern Munich if they intensify their pursuit of Werner.

News of Chelsea pursuing two new strikers suggests Olivier Giroud and Michy Batshuayi do not have long-term futures at Stamford Bridge.
