West Brom keeping close eye on Euro 2016 winner

West Brom manager Tony Pulis spent his weekend off in Portugal watching William Carvalho in Sporting’s draw with rivals Benfica at the weekend, reports The Daily Telegraph.

The Baggies have been heavily linked with a move for the Sporting ace this season and Pulis is weighing up whether to revive his interest in the Euro 2016 winner this summer as he eyes even greater progress next season.

West Brom reportedly failed with a £20m offer for the 25-year-old last summer but Sporting are reportedly open to the idea of selling the midfielder, although it would require a club-record offer from Pulis’ side to land the Portugal international.

Carvalho’s current deal is not due to expire until 2020 and has reportedly been valued in excess of £25m by Sporting, but Pulis’ presence in Lisbon to watch the midfielder in their 1-1 draw with Benfica would only suggest he remains in the club’s plans.

The Sporting midfielder has won possession in the midfield third more times than any other player in the Portuguese Liga NOS (157).
