Rafa Benitez has told Newcastle he will not speak about extending his contract until after the January transfer window, reports The Daily Telegraph.
Reports emerged last week suggesting the Magpies were planning contract talks with Benitez this month despite the fact they have failed to add to their squad.
Newcastle chairman Mike Ashley has promised Benitez he will be able to sign players this month, despite the fact he is trying to sell the club, and Benitez has told the board to focus on signings.
Benitez has 18 months left to run on his current deal but there have been rumours of unrest ever since he guided the Magpies to promotion from the Championship last season.
Broken promises about recruitment has been the main point of frustration for Benitez and the 57-year-old does not want to be further misled before committing his future to the club.
Newcastle are currently one point above the bottom three having only won six games in 24 matches.
