Premier League’s best tackler sidelined for six weeks

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed Lucas has suffered a unique quad injury that will keep him sidelined for six weeks.

Lucas, 29, has been one of the best performers under Klopp and was arguably Liverpool’s best player in their Capital One Cup final defeat to Manchester City despite playing in an unfamiliar centre-back position.

And it has now been revealed that the combative midfielder will miss the next six weeks after sustaining an unusual quad injury taking a penalty in their cup final defeat.

“Lucas is really unfortunate, a little bit more serious [than first thought],” Klopp is quoted as saying by Football365.com. “I’ve never heard about an injury you can get like this.

“I don’t know exactly, but five or six weeks [out]. It’s not too good.”

Since the start of the season, no player to have made at least 15 league appearances has required fewer minutes per successful tackle than Lucas (16.7 mins).
