Middlesbrough have told clubs they will need to pay £35m to sign Ben Gibson in January, reports The Daily Mirror.
Gibson, 23, has impressed at the heart of Middlesbrough’s defence this season and his performances have caught the attention of Chelsea and Everton, with both clubs alleged to be readying a move for the defender in January.
However, clubs are never willing to sell their star players in January and Middlesbrough, unsurprisingly, are in the same boat and will demand clubs make Gibson the third most expensive English player of all-time.
Aitor Karanka’s side are in complete control of Gibson’s immediate future after the England defender signed a new five-year deal earlier this year keeping him contracted to the club until 2021.
Only Adam Forshaw (615) has completed more passes for Middlesbrough in the Premier League this season than Gibson (558).
