Real Madrid outcast wants to stay

Real Madrid midfielder James Rodriguez has revealed he wants to stay at the reigning European champions despite struggling for game time under Zinedine Zidane.

Rodriguez, 25, has been heavily linked with a move away from the club since the end of last season with a number of Premier League sides reportedly interested in his services.

The Colombia international started in Madrid’s 3-1 win over Napoli on Wednesday night and revealed after the win that he has no desire to leave the club anytime soon.

“I think everything is going well, Madrid are a big club and I always wanted to be here,” The Daily Mail quote Rodriguez as saying.

“Good and bad things always happen but I want to stay here for a lot longer. I always train to play and I want to be here,”

“You always want to play, now that I have more game time, everything is slowly changing.”

Rodriguez has only started four league games this season and may have to settle with a role on the bench once again with Gareth Bale due to make his return following a two-month injury absence this weekend.

Despite being limited to few opportunities, Rodriguez’s creative qualities are undeniable. Of players to have started at least 10 matches in the last three La Liga campaigns Rodriguez has required the fewest minutes per key pass (1 every 28 mins).
