Schalke dismiss Sane exit fears

Schalke chairman Clemen Tonnies has ruled out the departure of Leroy Sane this month, amid growing interest from Manchester City.

City had been preparing a €55m (£40.3m) move for the 19-year-old in January, according to German newspaper Bild.

However, Manuel Pellegrini’s team will have to explore other targets after Tonnies categorically ruled out Sane’s departure.

“We have decided to not sell Leroy,” Tonnies told Recklinghauser Zeitung.

“Should anyone be interested in Leroy, it just confirms the outstanding work of our youth academy. But we have decided to not sell Leroy, and the player does not want to leave Schalke. And thus it [a transfer] is not an issue."

The teen earned his maiden Germany cap in November and still has four years left to run on his current deal at Schalke, which does not include a release clause.

Sane is becoming more and more important to Schalke with every passing gameweek. In fact, only Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting (51) completed more dribbles than Leroy Sane (49) for Schalke in the Bundesliga this season.
