Tottenham striker has foot surgery, club confirm

Tottenham have confirmed Vincent Janssen has undergone ‘minor foot surgery’ and will now face a spell on the sidelines.

Janssen was transfer listed by Mauricio Pochettino at the start of the summer but Tottenham have failed to shift the out-of-favour striker.

Tottenham splashed out £17m to sign Janssen from Dutch side AZ Alkmaar in 2016 but he has failed to make any impact at the club.

Janssen even spent last season on loan at Turkish side Fenerbahce but will now reportedly be sidelined until the festive period.

“Vincent Janssen has undergone minor foot surgery,” a statement on the club’s official website read.

“He will now go through a period of recovery and rehabilitation overseen by our medical staff.”

Pochettino left Janssen off Tottenham’s pre-season tour of the US and hasn’t even given the Netherlands international a shirt number this season.

Tottenham were hopeful of offloading the 24-year-old before the end of the month but he will now stay until January at the very earliest.

Janssen has made 28 Premier League appearances for Tottenham but has only netted twice in that period, and one was a penalty.
