City eye up young centre-back duo

Manchester City could make John Stones and Aymeric Laporte their first signings of the summer, according to The Sun.

The duo have been strongly linked with moves to the Etihad Stadium in the past and may both make the move to Eastlands for a combined £80m.

Pep Guardiola has supposedly earmarked the defence as one of the key areas that needs strengthening if City are to establish themselves as a dominant force in Europe.

With Nicolas Otamendi and Eliaquim Mangala both underwhelming, Martin Demichelis expected to depart at the end of the season and Vincent Kompany's ongoing injury concerns, City need to shore things up at the back.

Laporte is believed to have a £40m release clause in his contract, while Everton could entertain offers of a similar amount for Stones following a disappointing campaign to date.
