Manchester United midfielder wants showdown talks with Mourinho
Ander Herrera wants to talk to Jose Mourinho about his Manchester United future this summer, claims The Sun.
The Spain international was a key figure for Mourinho during the Portuguese’s first campaign at the club but dropped down the pecking order last season.
Herrera’s contract was due to expire this summer but United triggered a 12-month extension earlier in the year.
United have reached an agreement for Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred and Herrera is concerned about his role in the team next season.
Mourinho’s first choice midfield will likely not include Herrera and the 28-year-old has been linked with a return to Spanish side Athletic Club.
The Red Devils are not expected to entertain any offers for Herrera as they have already lost Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini is also set to leave.
Losing Herrera would further deplete Mourinho’s options and force the United boss into the transfer market once again.
No United player has made more tackles and interceptions combined in the Premier League under Mourinho than Herrera (255).
