Aston Villa manager Remi Garde has confirmed Adama Traore will miss the next eight to 10 weeks after breaking a bone in his foot.
The 19-year-old was a second half substitute in their 3-1 defeat away to Sunderland on Saturday but failed to complete the match after limping off with a foot injury after providing a sumptuous ball to set up Villa’s only goal of the afternoon.
Traore joined Villa from Barcelona over the summer but has struggled for match fitness and been limited to just 165 minutes playing time in the league spread over nine substitute appearances.
However, despite never playing more than 32 minutes in a single match this season, Traore has often been a bright spark going forward, although his defensive work has left little to be desired.
Villa have looked clueless going forward this season and Traore's injury has almost certaintly put the final nail in their coffin, with Garde's men 11 points adrift of safety.
In fact, of players to have featured in more than 100 minutes of league action this season no player has required fewer minutes per successful dribble than Traore (7.2 mins).
