Injury to Manchester United midfielder not as serious as feared

The injury sustained by Marouane Fellaini on international duty against Bosnia-Herzegovina is not as bad as first feared, the Belgian national team’s Twitter account has announced.

Red Devils boss Roberto Martinez had mentioned that the midfielder may have suffered a knee ligament injury, which had understandably caused concern that the 29-year-old would be out for some time.

The tweet from Sunday morning, however, has suggested that while the United man would miss the upcoming qualifier with Cyprus the injury should only keep him sidelined for a couple of weeks.

The much maligned Fellaini has enjoyed a strong start to the season since coming in to deputise for Paul Pogba, forging a strong partnership with Nemanja Matic.

The Belgian will almost certainly miss the important matches with Liverpool and Benfica following the international break but could be in line for a return for the trip to Huddersfield.

Ander Herrera, who was a key man under Mourinho last season but has been marginalised this, will likely step in to replace Fellaini and is certainly no weak understudy by any means.
