Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is eyeing up a move for compatriot Pepe at the end of the season, reports the Sun.
The 33-year-old has fallen down the Real Madrid pecking order and it’s highly likely that this season is his last for the La Liga giants.
Pepe has been attracting interest from across Europe, but Mourinho, who managed the centre-back during his time as Real Madrid boss, is hoping to convince the defender to move to Old Trafford.
Mourinho needs an experienced head to help mould his backline, with Chris Smalling at 27 currently his oldest centre-back option.
However, they would face stiff competition for his signature from a host of Chinese Super League teams, who are prepared to offer the Portugal international huge wages to convince him to move to the Far East.
Tottenham are also believed to be interested in Pepe, who in the last 12 months won the Champions League and the European Championship for Real Madrid and Portugal, respectively.
