Manchester United and Manchester City consider move for Tottenham midfielder

Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks has emerged as a transfer target for both Manchester clubs this month, according to The Athletic.

Winks has dropped down the pecking order since Jose Mourinho's arrival at Tottenham in November and it has put Manchester United and Manchester City on red alert.

United, in particular, are desperate to bolster their midfield options this month following long-term injuries to both Scott McTominay and Paul Pogba.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side are keen to bring in at least one new face to add to their current options and a bid for Winks is being considered this month.

Winks has only started three of Mourinho's first nine league games in charge of Tottenham, one of which was their 2-1 defeat to United at Old Trafford.

The 23-year-old's lack of game time is particularly worrying for Gareth Southgate, as Winks is thought to be key to England's plans for Euro 2020.

Of Tottenham players that have made at least five Premier League appearances so far this season, Winks averages the most passes per 90 minutes (75.1).
