Tottenham midfielder to review future at the club

Moussa Sissoko has revealed he plans to sit down with Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino and discuss his future at the club after brandishing this season as the worst of his career.

Tottenham agreed a stunning £30m deal with relegated Newcastle to sign Sissoko on deadline day last summer but the powerful midfielder has made no impression at the club ever since his arrival.

France manager Didier Deschamps has warned Sissoko that he will need to secure regular playing time next season if he wants to remain in contention on the international scene and now the 27-year-old has expressed his dismay at how the past year has gone.

“We’ll talk with my agent to make the best decision. My goal is to do the 2018 World Cup,” Sissoko told L’Equipe, via The Independent.

“If I revisit a season like this and even if the coach likes me, it makes sense to not do it. I fell from high. Even though I never thought I would play all the games, I was not expecting such a low playing time.

“It was the worst season of my career when collectively it was certainly the best - it’s weird. I will talk to the coach. It usually gives good advice. He knows me very well, his opinion will count. I wish there was better communication.

“What I want most of all is that everything be clear. If the coach no longer counts on me, he thinks that the players who are there are better, he should say so.

“I want an honest discussion about what they intend to do, their future with me. From there, everything will be clearer in my head. It was not because of my performance on the field.

“There was a misunderstanding between us. The club finished second, so maybe it was not wrong, but, personally, I was hoping better. We can not go back. Who can say how it would have happened if I had gone elsewhere?

“Today, I am disappointed because I aspired to better but I am not dejected. I was not expecting such a low playing time.”

Sissoko has arguably been the worst signing of the season in the Premier League and these latest comments will only please Tottenham supporters that want to see the back of the Frenchman as soon as possible.

The former Newcastle midfielder only managed eight league starts for Tottenham this season, being forced to make a further 17 appearances from the substitute bench. In fact, only Vincent Janssen (20) and Harry Winks (18) made more appearances off the bench for Tottenham in the league than Sissoko this season.
