Inter hold talks for Manchester United target

Inter have moved into the driving seat for wantaway Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic after it became clear the Premier League champions would not do business with Manchester United, reports the London Evening Standard.

Chelsea have failed to convince Matic to commit his long-term future to the club after months of contract negations and the Serbia international will be free to leave Stamford Bridge after Tiemoue Bakayoko’s arrival from Monaco is confirmed.

The Serbia international was expected to reunite with Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford this summer but that deal is now off the table after United hi-jacked Chelsea’s transfer of Everton striker Romelu Lukaku at the start of the week.

Matic’s future remains unclear for now but Serie A giants Inter have entered talks with Antonio Conte’s side about striking a £34m deal, which would make the midfielder one of their most expensive players of all-time.

In the last three Premier League campaigns only four central midfielders have been dribbled past more times than Matic (140).
