Everton captain ruled out for two months

Everton manager Roberto Martinez has confirmed captain Phil Jagielka will miss the next eight to nine weeks through injury sustained in the defeat to Arsenal on Saturday.

Jagielka, 33, was forced off during the second half of Everton’s 2-1 defeat at the Emirates after a collusion with England teammate Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Everton boss Martinez has confirmed the defender did not sustain cruciate damage, but he will miss at least the next two months because of medial ligament damage in his left knee.

Since the start of the 2009/10 campaign, Everton’s win ratio actually improves with Jagielka absent from the starting XI. The Toffees have won 43.1% of 58 league games without the England international in the starting line up (25), compared to 39.4% of the 180 appearances with him in the team from the start (71).
