West Ham set to bid £25m for Euro 2016 winner

West Ham are keen to bolster their central midfield options and are preparing a £25m bid for Sporting midfielder William Carvalho, reports The Daily Mail.

Carvalho, 25, has been regularly linked with a move to the Premier League in recent years after establishing himself as one of the best midfielders in Portugal.

West Brom came close to signing the Euro 2016 winner 12 months ago, while Arsenal are also regularly mooted with a move for the Portugal international.

However, West Ham are now the latest side that will attempt to lure the defensive midfielder to England and Slaven Bilic’s side are readying a £25m bid to convince Sporting to part ways.

Sporting are notoriously difficult to negotiate with and have in the past been known to demand closer to his £39.5m release clause, which could prove a major stumbling block for the Hammers.

Carvalho has won possession in the midfield third more times (173) than any other Liga NOS player since the start of August 2016.
