Real Madrid hit snag in pursuit of Frankfurt sensation Jovic
Real Madrid striker Mariano threatens to hold up a potential deal for Frankfurt sensation Luka Jovic, claims AS.
Frankfurt have denied claims they have agreed to sell Jovic to Madrid at the end of the season in a deal worth £51 but Zinedine Zidane’s side are chasing his signature.
Jovic is set to leave Frankfurt this summer after emerging as one of the most sought after prospects in Europe this season and Madrid are at the front of the queue.
Frankfurt will not stand in Jovic’s way of leaving but the Bundesliga outfit want Mariano included in a deal with Madrid that would see the Serbia international move in the opposite direction.
Mariano’s game time will be reduced significantly if Madrid land Jovic but the 25-year-old is determined to stay at the Bernabeu next season.
The Dominican Republic international has struggled with injuries this season and has only started three league games, though did net a brace in a 3-2 win over Villarreal at the weekend.
“I don’t have a crystal ball but I want to stay [at Madrid],” he told AS. “I am very happy and let’s see what happens going forward. I am very happy for having won at home and on top of that, scoring."
While Mariano has failed to get going this season, only two players have scored more goals than Jovic (17) in the Bundesliga.
