Leicester almost sold Vardy for £5m

It has sensationally emerged that Leicester City had agreed to sell Jamie Vardy to Sheffield Wednesday for £5m at the end of last season, only for the deal to collapse at the last minute, according to Football Insider 24/7.

Former Leicester manager Nigel Pearson was reportedly unconvinced by Vardy’s ability to cut it in the Premier League and a deal had been agreed for the England international to return closer to home.

However, the deal was pulled after Wednesday’s owners reportedly got cold feet over the price and Vardy remained before Pearson was sacked and replaced by Claudio Ranieri.

The 29-year-old striker is reportedly on the verge of signing a new three-and-a-half-year deal at the King Power Stadium after starting the season in remarkable form that has Leicester three points clear of Manchester City at the top of the Premier League.

Vardy took his goal tally to 18 for the league campaign – at least three clear of anyone else – with a brace against Liverpool on Tuesday, which included a goal of the season contender.
