Sheffield United make play for Manchester United outcast
Sheffield United are making a serious push to sign Jesse Lingard from Manchester United this month, reports The Daily Mirror.
Lingard is weighing up his future at boyhood club United after dropping completely out of favour after a nightmare 18 months on and off the pitch.
French club Nice have already cooled their interest in the former England international but now Sheffield United are pushing to secure his services for the remainder of the season.
Chris Wilder's side are pitching Sheffield United as a platform for Lingard to secure a bigger move in the summer.
United extended Lingard's contract by 12 months to the end of next season but will likely cash in on the 28-year-old this summer.
Lingard has only started two matches for United this season and is yet to make a single appearance in the Premier League.
Sheffield United are desperate to bolster their squad for the remainder of the season with the club bottom of the table with five points and one win at the halfway stage.
Lingard has only managed five goals in his last 49 Premier League appearances, returning only one in 22 outings last term.
Previously a key member of England's 2018 World Cup squad, Lingard hasn't featured for the Three Lions since June 2019.
