Marseille want to sign Inter target

Marseille have entered the race to sign Ricardo Rodriguez but face a fight to convince the Wolfsburg defender with Serie A giants Inter also interested, reports L’Equipe, via Get French Football.

Rodriguez, 24, has been heavily linked with a move away from the Bundesliga outfit in recent years, with a number of Premier League clubs regularly mooted with the versatile defender.

Paris Saint-Germain were also said to be in talks with Wolfsburg ahead of the January transfer market but appear to have ended their interest after signing Julian Draxler from the German outfit instead.

The Switzerland international’s current deal is due to expire in 2019 and there is reportedly a €22m (£19m) release clause, which Marseille are reportedly prepared to meet in order to strengthen their defence.

However, not only are Inter ahead in the race to land Rodriguez but they are also willing to pay above his release clause to beat off any competition.

Rodriguez has spent half of his time playing at the heart of Wolfsburg’s defence and also on the left, where his natural position is. Rodriguez is currently on course to achieve his lowest ever WhoScored rating in a league campaign (6.89).
