Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has sensationally revealed he misses Gonzalo Higuain after failing to reunite with the striker in the summer.
Higuain turned down the chance to link up wuth Sarri at Chelsea in favour of staying in Italy to join Serie A giants AC Milan.
Higuain played the best football of his career under Sarri at Napoli before earning a stunning £80m move to Juventus in 2016.
The Argentina international was forced out of Juventus in the summer following the blockbuster arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo and Chelsea were the frontrunners at one stage.
Milan ended up beating Chelsea to his signature leaving Sarri to work with Olivier Giroud and Alvaro Morata in attack.
Morata continues to flounder for Chelsea and Sarri’s latest comments only emphasise his disappointment at failing to land Higuain.
“Whatever response I give will be considered wrong and put words into my mouth,” he told Corriere dello Sport, via London Evening Standard.
“All I can say is that I feel Gonzalo left Napoli too soon. If he had stayed for another season, I think we could’ve been in a condition to win.
“Higuain was a part of the fantastic mechanism we created, we understood each other so well/ It was perfect synchronicity and the regrets will probably stick with us.
“I miss Higuain a great deal. I miss him because he’ll keep scoring goals until the day he dies. He is a goal machine, a systematic and automatic jackpot.”
While Higuain hasn’t discovered his best form for Milan this season, the 30-year-old has been among the goals.
Higuain has scored four times in his first five league games for Milan and has netted twice in as many Europa League appearances for the club.
