Liverpool are in advanced talks with Joe Gomez about a handing the talented young defender a new long-term deal at the club, reports The Daily Mail.
Gomez, 19, still has three-and-a-half-years remaining on his existing deal with the Reds after joining from Charlton in 2015 in a deal worth £3.5m.
The England Under-21 international has endured a frustrating time at Liverpool since joining the club after suffering two long-term injuries that halted progress following an impressive start to life under Brendan Rodgers.
Gomez only made his debut under Jurgen Klopp in the FA Cup third round against Plymouth and is set for further game time when they host Wolves in the next round of the competition on Saturday.
Despite barely featuring for the club he is highly regarded by Klopp and his return to fitness was a main reason why Liverpool have not signed another defender this month. Liverpool are now keen to reward Gomez with fresh terms and secure his long-term future with talks progressing nicely.
