Barcelona quoted €70m to re-sign former midfielder

Barcelona have been told they will need to pay Bayern Munich €70m (£61.3m) to re-sign top midfield target Thiago Alcantara, claims Marca.

Thiago left Barcelona to join the Bundesliga giants in 2013 but the Spain international has been heavily linked with a move away from the Allianz Arena this summer.

The 27-year-old dropped down the pecking order at Bayern last season and the impending arrival of Germany international Leon Goretzka has cast further questions about his future at the club.

Barcelona were criticised for their decision to sell Thiago and the Spanish champions will now have to pay a heavy price if they want to prise him back to the club.

Ernesto Valverde’s side signed Philippe Coutinho in January in preparation for Andres Iniesta’s departure this summer but still want to add Thiago to their midfield options.

Barcelona have money to spend this summer as they were willing to lavish €100m on Atletico Madrid star Antoine Griezmann, only for the striker to turn down the club’s advances.

Thiago only started 12 league games last season, making a further seven appearances from the bench. He played a direct hand in four goals in that period, while completing 91.5% of his passes.
