Manchester United star left out of France squad

Manchester United forward Anthony Martial has been omitted from Didier Deschamps’ France squad for the upcoming international break.

Martial has not featured in any of France’s last nine matches but appeared on the cusp of a return to the international scene after a dazzling start to the season with United.

France are scheduled to play Bulgaria and Belarus in the final World Cup qualifiers at the start of next month and Martial has not done enough to convince Deschamps he is deserving of a call-up.

Bayern Munich winger Kingsley Coman and Marseille duo Florian Thauvin and Dimitri Payet have instead been selected to provide options in wide areas for France, meaning Martial will stay in Manchester and continue training.

Despite failing to nail down a regular starting berth for United this season, supporters are now seeing the best from the 22-year-old after a turbulent first year under Jose Mourinho.

The United No.11 has scored and assisted nine goals in eight appearances in all competitions this season, playing a direct hand in a goal every 39.1 minutes of action.
