Everton are leading the race to sign out of favour Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata after manager Ronald Koeman confirmed his interest in the Spaniard, reports the Express.
Mata is surplus to requirements at Old Trafford following Joe Mourinho’s appointment as United boss, with Toffees hoping to convince the attacker to move to Goodison Park.
Barcelona had been credited with an interest in the 28-year-old, but have since opted against making a move for the United man.
That leaves Everton in pole position to sign Mata, with Koeman, when asked by fans whether a deal for the diminutive creator was on the cards, saying: “Yes, it is possible”.
The Toffees have made just one signing so far this summer, with Maarten Stekelenburg arriving from Fulham at the beginning of the month.
