Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo has escaped punishment from the Football Association for his stamp on Chelsea’s Eden Hazard during their FA Cup defeat on Monday night.
Video replays appeared to show the Argentina international stamp on Hazard after bundling the Chelsea ace to the floor late on in Monday’s 1-0 loss and it was thought Rojo could be handed a similar ban to the one the FA hit Bournemouth defender Tyrone Mings with last week.
Mings was found guilty of violent conduct after stamping on Zlatan Ibrahimovic in Bournemouth’s 1-1 draw with United last weekend before being handed a five-game ban from the FA.
Rojo’s stamp appeared more clear-cut than Mings’ but the United defender will face no further punishment after Michael Oliver, who was the referee at Stamford Bridge, included the incident in his match report, which will go down as a mistake on his part.
Rojo didn’t appear to have a future at the club when Jose Mourinho took over but he has arguably been one United’s best centre back this season and this news will come as a huge relief for Mourinho, as the club look to climb back into the top four.
In fact, United are yet to lose a game in the Premier League this season with Rojo in the starting XI.
