Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez has sustained a ‘low grade muscle injury’ on international duty with Chile.
Sanchez, 27, has been in sensational form for Arsenal this season and is an early doubt for their huge match against Manchester United after the international break.
The Chile international has been ruled out of their World Cup qualifier against Colombia on Thursday, but Juan Antonio Pizzi’s side are hopeful Sanchez will recover in time to feature against Uruguay next Tuesday.
“He will remain in Santiago, under treatment and in evaluation for the meeting against Uruguay, a statement read, via BBC Sport.
The former Barcelona forward’s future at Arsenal is still up in the air as no progress has been made in securing his long-term future.
Sanchez has entered the final two years of the deal he signed when he joined Arsenal from Barcelona in 2014 but Arsene Wenger is determined to keep the Chilean.
Only Philippe Coutinho, Romelu Lukaku (both 10) and Diego Costa (12) have played a direct hand in more Premier League goals this season than Sanchez (9), while only Lionel Messi (9.19) and Theo Walcott (8.72) have secured a higher WhoScored rating in the Champions League this term (Sanchez - 8.35).
