Arsenal and Manchester City tracking Bayern Munich target
Arsenal and Manchester City are monitoring Leon Goretzka’s future at Schalke but will need to pay in excess of €30m (£26.5m) to tempt the Bundesliga giants, reports SportBild.
Goretzka has been given an extended break after playing an integral part in Germany’s Confederations Cup success this summer, but his future remains the biggest talking point in Schalke’s pre-season camp.
The 22-year-old has entered the final 12 months of his current Schalke deal and there were strong claims that the German midfielder had already agreed to join Bayern Munich on a free next summer, although he has since rubbish those reports.
Nevertheless, Schalke insist their star midfielder is not for sale despite the fact they face the prospect of losing him for nothing in 12 months time. Goretzka was heavily linked with a move to Arsenal last season and his strong showings at the Confederations Cup have now caught the eye of City boss Guardiola.
Despite the fact he has entered the final year of his current deal, it will take an offer in excess of €30m for Schalke to even contemplate selling the highly rated midfielder maestro.
In the last two Bundesliga seasons only Kevin Kampl (222) has won possession in the midfield third more times than Goretzka (220).
