Higuain rejects Napoli contract

Gonzalo Higuain has rejected Napoli’s attempts to tie down his long-term future, putting suitors on red alert this summer.

The Argentina international has been heavily linked with a big money move away from the Serie A giants following his dazzling goal scoring form last season.

Arsenal, Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid have all been heavily linked with the Napoli frontman and all have been given hope in their pursuit after his agent revealed he has rejected their latest contract offer.

“Gonzalo [Higuain] won’t renew his contract with Napoli,” Nicolas Higuain told Radio Continental, via Marca.

“Napoli are currently asking for the payment of his release clause as a condition for his departure, but Gonzalo and I decided not to extend the deal.

“We’ll see what happens next year, we could even wait until the contract’s expiry date.”

Higuain broke a 66-year Serie A record last season when he took his tally for a single-campaign to 36 goals with the last of his three goals against Frosinone in the last game of the season; only Zlatan Ibrahimovic (38) and Luis Suarez (40) scored more across Europe’s top five leagues last season.
