Manchester United set to confirm permanent manager this week

Manchester United are poised to make Ole Gunnar Solskjaer their permanent manager this week, claims The Daily Mail.

The Red Devils were not planning to make a decision on Jose Mourinho’s long-term successor until the end of the season.

United appointed Solskjaer as interim manager before Christmas and were planning a summer move for Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino.

However, Solskjaer has been a roaring success at Old Trafford and has forced himself into pole position for the full-time job.

The 46-year-old has won 14 of his first 19 games in charge of United and remarkably guided the club into the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

United came from 2-0 down to Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of their last-16 clash to win 3-1 in Paris and advance to the next round.

Solskjaer has received public backing from a number of senior United players in recent weeks and the club are now set to reward his startling work.

Since taking charge at Old Trafford, United have collected more Premier League points than any other team under Solskjaer (32).
