Chelsea and Manchester United could be set to battle for Roma defender Antonio Rudiger in January, according to The Daily Mail.
Rudiger, 23, hasn’t featured competitively since June after tearing his cruciate knee ligaments in training with Germany before Euro 2016 although he has now returned to full fitness.
Chelsea were linked with a summer move for the £35m-rated defender prior to that and may step up their interest when the January transfer window re-opens, although they could now face competition from United.
United are set to be without Eric Bailly for two months due to a similar injury to the one Rudiger suffered in the summer, and while he will be back before the transfer window opens, United could lose him to the African Cup of Nations for six weeks in January.
Rudiger featured in 30 matches for Roma last season during his loan spell, which Roma made permanent prior to his serious knee injury.
