Derby are poised to announce former Birmingham City manager Gary Rowett as their new manager after agreeing terms, reports The Daily Mirror.
The Rams made the decision to sack McClaren for the second time on Sunday and have already moved to secure his successor.
Rowett has been out of work since being sacked as Birmingham manager in December but the young Englishman is highly rated and was briefly linked with a job in the Premier League.
The 43-year-old spent three years at Derby as a player before moving to Birmingham in 1998 and now looks set to return to Pride Park as manager.
Derby’s promotion push has completely fizzled out in recent weeks and they are now 10 points adrift of sixth place Sheffield Wednesday after only winning one of their last nine league games.
In 106 games in charge of Birmingham, Rowett won a modest 39.6% of those games. One of Rowett's big tasks will be to get Derby scoring goals again. The Rams have only netted 39 goals in the league so far, which is by far the fewest of those in the top 10 in the Championship.
