Real Madrid to announce Asensio's contract extension
Real Madrid will announce Marco Asensio’s contract extension that will include a €500m (£439.6m) release clause later this week, reports AS.
The reigning European champions have moved to secure the long-term futures of a number of players in the last month, including Isco, Dani Carvajal, Karim Benzema and Marcelo, with Asensio set to be the latest name to pen new terms.
Asensio still has five years remaining on his current deal but Madrid will announce they have added a further 12 months, taking him through until 2023, after their involvement in the Champions League this week.
The 21-year-old has established himself as one of the brightest talents in Europe in the last year and is the future for Madrid once the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Luka Modric and Gareth Bale move on.
Asensio has scored two goals in six league appearances so far this season and both strikes came from outside of the penalty area. In fact, no La Liga player has managed more from outside the box this term.
