Leeds pull off stunning deal for Wolves defender

Leeds have announced the arrival of Wolves defender Barry Douglas on a three-year deal running until 2021.

The Championship giants have secured Douglas’ services in a shock transfer and his arrival boosts their chances of success this season.

Douglas was a revelation for Wolves last term and played an integral part in their Championship-winning campaign.

The Scotland international looked set to start next season as Wolves’ first choice left-back in the Premier League but was surprisingly deemed surplus to requirements.

Wolves announced the shock arrival of Atletico Madrid defender Jonny on a season-long loan deal last week and now Douglas has completed a switch to Leeds.

“It’s exciting times and I am looking forward to getting going now and meeting the squad,” he told the club’s official website.

“After last season and getting promoted with Wolves and to top that, having the birth of my first child, this is another step and I can’t wait to get going.

“The move happened quite fast, Wolves took the decision to let me know I wasn’t going to be part of their plans which was hard to take at first, but life goes on.

“I then found out about the interest from Leeds and the project here is similar to what was going on at Wolves last year and it is very exciting, so that is what made the decision for me to come here.

“The way the head coach is speaking about playing, I think is going to suit me down to a tee, so hopefully we can compliment each other and have success.

“This is a massive club and I’m sure the fans want it to be back in the top flight where it rightfully belongs, so hopefully I can bring some success as well as enjoying the journey.”
