Manchester United have announced Nemanja Matic has extended his contract by a further two years.
Matic's previous deal was due to expire at the end of next season but United have rewarded the veteran midfielder with new terms following an up-turn in form this year.
The Serbia international looked on his way out of United at the end of 2019 after dropping completely out of favour under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
However, Matic has played a key role in United's resurgence and his performances have flown under the radar with the likes of Bruno Fernandes and Mason Greenwood stealing all the headlines.
With Matic at the base of midfield carrying out a large chunk of the dirty work, United's forward players have been given the license to cause havoc in the final third.
United have been locked in talks with Matic's representatives for several months and have now agreed to keep the 31-year-old until the summer of 2023.
"I am very happy that I will continue to be part of this great club," he told the club's official website. "As a player, I still have a lot more to give and achieve in my career and to do that with Manchester United will be a huge honour.
"This is a really exciting team to be part of, we have a good balance of youth and experience within the squad and there is great comradery amongst the group.
"This is a keyh part of the season and we are playing well. We will continue to fight to finish the season on a high and make our amazing supporters proud."
