Which defender ranked supreme in Ligue 1 over the weekend?
There were 35 goals scored across the 10 league games played over the weekend in Ligue 1, with only three teams able to keep clean sheets. However, despite it proving three days of fun for strikers across the country, none were able to garner a higher WhoScored rating than Caen defender Damien Da Silva (9.82).
The 27-year-old’s performance was so impressive in Caen’s 4-1 win over Bordeaux that he gained the second highest WhoScored rating of any defender not only in Ligue 1, but across Europe’s top five leagues this season.
Da Silva scored Caen’s second of the game, and the season, to give his team a 2-0 lead, but it was his defensive display that was pivotal in limiting Bordeaux’s frontline.
Indeed, no player on display at the Matmut Atlantique completed more tackles and interceptions than Da Silva (11) and similarly, no player won more aerial duels than the Frenchman as Caen moved into second place, 13 points behind leaders Paris Saint-Germain.
