Aston Villa set to sign former Arsenal midfielder

Aston Villa are on the verge of completing a deal to sign Nottingham Forest captain Henri Lansbury after having a £3.5m bid accepted for the former Arsenal midfielder, reports BBC Nottingham Sport.

Steve Bruce’s outfit have been keen to sign Lansbury since the January transfer window opened but any progress in signing the midfielder slowed when their Championship rivals failed to respond to their offer for almost a week.

Forest had already rejected a bid from fierce rivals Derby earlier in the month, unwilling to sell to a nearby rival, but Villa appear to have won the race to land the 26-year-old after offering £1m more than the Rams.

Lansbury hasn’t featured for Forest since suffering a hamstring injury prior to their 3-0 loss against Derby at the start of December and his departure will serve as a real blow to Forest as they look to fend off relegation.

Lansbury has scored at least five more goals than any other Forest player in the last four Championship campaigns (27), an impressive feat from a midfielder.
