New Bayern Munich boss backs Rodriguez to shine

Bayern Munich boss Jupp Heynckes has backed James Rodriguez to overcome a difficult start to life in Germany and rediscover his best form.

Rodriguez joined Bayern on an initial two-year loan deal over the summer but the Colombia international has endured a difficult start to life in Germany.

Reports have emerged suggesting Rodriguez wants to return to Madrid in the wake of Carlo Ancelotti’s sacking but Heynckes, who returns to management after three years out, has backed the Colombia international to shine.

“My idea on James are clear,” Football Espana quote Heynckes as saying at his press conference.

“I’ve watched James in many games and I know a lot about him, although not on a personal level and when he returns from international duty I will speak to him and see what advice I can give.

“James cannot speak German and it’s a very different style of play here than in South America… the language, mentality and culture are all different.

“That can make it difficult for young players but I know I can help him because I like players with talent and he has a lot of it.”

Injuries have limited Rodriguez to one start and two substitute appearances in the Bundesliga this season, although he has managed to play a direct hand in two goals in that time (1 goal, 1 assist).

Furthermore, of players that have made more than one Bundesliga appearance this season, Rodriguez requires the fewest minutes per key pass (1 every 15.3 minutes of action).
